Fotolia is a 'social marketplace' that brings together photographers and designers, making it easy to license work at a low cost. If your photography skills are up to par, getting your work posted on Fotolia is a simple process.

Getting Accepted
Anyone can contribute images to Fotolia. After registering, you must complete an online training course before you can submit images for review.

Image Requirements - Content

• You must be the copyright holder of all images you submit.
• You must have proper releases for images showing trademarked or copyrighted materials, such as logos, signs, artwork, architecture, etc.
• Model releases are required for all images containing people whose features are recognizable. Images of minors require a model release signed by the parent or guardian. Fotolia does not currently accept editorial use images.
• Nudes - *We could not find official info on this, but based on images in the index, tasteful, artistic nudes are allowed.

Image Requirements - Quality

• Images should be suitable as stock-- that is, they should illustrate or depict an idea, concept, or emotion, rather than being overly artistic or abstract.
• High technical quality required - proper exposure, in focus, sharp, free of dust, noise, and scratches, etc.
• Good contrast and bright colors.
• Don't upsize images (interpolate) to meet size requirements.
• No pictures of family pets.
• No mediocre images of certain 'nature' subjects which are already well-represented (sunsets, flowers, etc.).

Image Specifications

• Types: photos, illustrations.
• File size: Minimum 1600x1200 pixels (2 megapixels) for web use, or 2400x1600 pixels (4 MP). Prefer 2000x3000 pixels (6 MP). Max file size is 20mb.
• File type: JPG for photos. SVG for vectors.

Method of Submission
Simple web page form, Flash form, or FTP upload.

Number of Submissions
While there is no limit on the number of submission, be aware that the ratio of submitted images to approved images is taken into consideration when images are reviewed. Quality is more important than quantity.

Approval Process
It takes 24-48 hours for the review process, and up to 48 hours for approved images to be added to the image index.
